JUMP ROPE FOR HEART

The Physical Education Depart here at FWS has participated in the Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser through the American Heart Association for each of the past 6 years. In that time the students and staff at FWS have raised over $16,951 since 2009-10 school year.

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Francis Wyman Elementary School and the Physical Education Department is proud to announce the Jump Rope for Heart event to raise funds for the American Heart Association will take place April 11-May 2, 2016. During these two weeks, students Grades 1-5 will jump rope during PE as part of their weekly fitness routine. Students will count their jumps and individual records will be kept. The money our school raises will help fund potentially lifesaving research into heart and blood vessel disease and stroke, which are our nation’s number 1 and 3 killers, according to the American Heart Association. It will also fund the development of materials that teach the importance of heart health and staying fit.

When your child participates in Jump Rope For Heart he or she:

Learns about the importance of the heart – how it works, and how to take care of it: Through classroom exercises and educational information provided by the American Heart Association.

Helps kids with special hearts: Our safe online tool makes it easy for your child to set-up a web page and send emails to invite friends and family to support their fundraising efforts and to share life-saving information.

Feels good for making a difference in people’s lives! Funds raised support American Heart Association research and education initiatives that save lives in our community. Congenital heart defects are the most common cause of infant death from birth defects. Many children are alive today because of treatments not available even 10 years ago. Funded research and advancements have changed and saved their lives!

Attached to this letter is a collection envelope for contributions. We ask that children not go door to door asking for donations. They may also create their own website on the AHA secure website at www.americanheart.org/jump. We ask that checks be made payable to the American Heart Association. Every child will be included in the event regardless of the donations. Contributions are voluntary. All contributions should be turned in by Friday, May 1st.

We thank you for supporting your child and this incredible event. For more information on the Jump Rope for Heart event please log onto www.americanheart.org/jump.

Sincerely,

Neil Rebelo Pat Magee
